In October 2016, Brooks looks to get faster on the trails. The Brooks Mazama is built with a somewhat thin midsole to place the foot close to the ground. Combined with a 6mm heel-toe offset, the Mazama looks to have inherent stability for technical trails.

The outsole pattern is designed in a way to allow the heel and forefoot to act somewhat independently, which is great for uneven footing. A propulsion plate sits below the forefoot midsole foam to enhance propulsion at toe-off and also functions as a rock plate. The rubber of the outsole is made of a sticky rubber and is in a bi-directional pattern for enhanced grip for uphill and downhill running.

On top, the upper is composed of a double-layered mesh for durability and has a gusseted tongue to help keep out trail debris. It also has a lace garage to keep the laces tucked out of the way.

The Mazama will be a great addition to the Brooks trail line, which currently consists of the Cascadia and the PureGrit. The Cascadia is great as a go-almost-anywhere trail shoe, but it’s not very fast. The PureGrit is a 4mm offset option that is a little softer and less aggressive than the Mazama.
